HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 8 Dartmouth heavyweight rowing team hosted its penultimate home regatta Saturday, against No. 12 Syracuse in the 60th Annual Packard Cup. The Big Green were able to take wins in the second varsity and the varsity four events, but the Orange took the win by a close margin in the varsity eight to earn the cup victory.
In the varsity four event, the home team raced two boats, both of which finished ahead of Syracuse. The Varsity Four A was coxed by Kevin He as he helped lead his team to victory (5:56.5), while the Varsity Four B came in second (6:02.0). The Orange’s varsity four boat finished third with a time of 6:06.2.
The third varsity race started competition for the varsity eight boats, which ended in a photo finish as both boats finished with the same time of 5:15.3, but Syracuse won by a bow ball. Dartmouth took away win number two of the day in the second varsity event, finishing slightly ahead (5:09.5) of the Orange (5:10.7).
In the first varsity both teams finished again with a close margin, as the Big Green (5:05.0) were 2.2 seconds behind Syracuse (5:03.3).
Dartmouth returns to the water tomorrow for the final regular season race against Georgetown, which gets underway at 9 a.m.
