HANOVER, N.H. – Head coach Chris Drake and sophomore Charlie Broom were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Monday afternoon with the releasing of the regional year-end awards.
Drake was named the Northeast Wilson/ ITA Coach of the Year, while Broom was named the ITA Northeast Player to Watch.
This year’s Ivy League Coach of the Year, Drake has accumulated an overall record of 121-70 and 34-22 in conference play in his eight years at Dartmouth. In 2017-18, he led the Big Green to their first-ever ECAC Indoor title and their first Ivy title since 1997.
Dartmouth concluded its impressive season (20-6 overall, 6-1 in conference play) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to Oregon. This is the second time he has received this award, the last being in 2014-15.
Broom – who was named the ITA Northeast Rookie of the Year last season – had a good sophomore year, going 13-6 at No. 1 singles during the spring. During the last week of the regular season, he found himself in the national rankings at No. 114.
In doubles, he and classmate David Horneffer played at the top spot for the entire season, springing into the rankings at No. 19 and remaining in the top 70 in the country for the remainder of the year. Broom was recently named first team All-Ivy for both singles and doubles play.
