NAPA VALLEY, Calif. – Dartmouth men’s tennis concluded play at the Silverado Invitational over the weekend. The Big Green faced San Francisco and the University of Las Vegas in doubles, and San Diego and Oklahoma State in singles action.
“We got some great competition to start the year,” head coach Chris Drake said, “and now have some good feedback for these guys on what they need to work on to continue to improve throughout this fall season.”
Dartmouth split its doubles matches against San Francisco on Saturday. Senior Max Fliegner and sophomore Charlie Broom dropped a very close match, 8-7, but senior Ciro Riccardi and sophomore David Horneffer walked away with an 8-4 victory over Ryan Marker and Oliver Poysti.
After facing the Toreros in doubles the day before, the Big Green came back for more, this time in singles. The three matches that San Diego won were all close, including a three-setter by Fliegner and Pratt Keerasuntonpong. Broom had a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Gui Osorio.
On Sunday, Dartmouth won both of its doubles matches against Las Vegas. Fliegner and Broom took down Courtney Lock and Evaldo Neto, 6-4, while Riccardi and Horneffer defeated by Richard Solberg and Ruben Alberts by the same score.
Oklahoma State won all four singles matches. Horneffer went to three sets against his opponent, but ultimately fell.
The Big Green have two weeks to go until they head to Princeton for the annual Ivy Plus Tournament.
