PRINCETON, N.J.  – Dartmouth men's tennis freshman Charlie Broom was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Thursday. The Hertfordshire, England, native was also selected to the All-Ivy First Team.

This is the third time in four years that a Big Green player has received the award. Ciro Riccardi won in 2015, while Dovydas Sakinis earned it the year before.

Broom made quite the impact during his first season in Hanover. In singles, he started the fall off by going 7-1 in tournament play before opening the spring at the No. 4 position, going 6-2 in all. He made his way up the ladder, going 4-1 at the No. 3 position and 2-0 at the No. 2 spot before making his debut at the No. 1 position against No. 25 Cornell on April 15, beating his opponent in two sets. He ended the season with a 2-1 record at the top spot.

In doubles, Broom played at all three positions, making his way up to court one. He kicked off the 2017 portion of the season by going 3-1 at No. 3 with Riccardi before he started to play alongside junior Max Fliegner. The pair finished out the season with a record of 9-2, going 3-0 against ranked teams and 1-0 against ranked opponents.
