FARMVILLE, Va. — The Dartmouth men’s golf team put together a solid final round on Sunday at the Manor Invitational to finish second in the 16-team field. The three-over 291 allowed them to overcome host Longwood by a single stroke at 10-over par for the tournament, but Rhode Island swept in and took the title with birdies on eight of its final 14 holes to edge out the Big Green

Dartmouth was led by senior Sean Fahey and sophomore John Lazor who both shared a piece of 10th place after finishing the tournament at two-over 218. Lazor was one of three Big Green players to finish even for the day, including junior Ian Kelsey and sophomore Jeff Lang, each of whom tied for 22nd at 221 (+5). The two both saved their best rounds of golf at the tournament for last each shaving off strokes in between the second and third round. The team was completed by freshman Will Bednarz who posted a seven-over 223, tying for 29th.

On the individual leaderboard, Rhode Island’s Chris Houston and Delaware’s Jack Gianniny tied for first. Houston, who played consistent the entire weekend with a 71 in each round to card a three-under 213, took medalist honors after sinking a birdie on the first playoff hole.

Houston led the Rams to victory as the team finished with the second-best round of the day at one-under par, only four strokes better than the Big Green. Longwood and Delaware tied for third with an 875 (+11) as the Blue Hens made up nine strokes on the Lancers today with a two-over 290  on the 7,246-yard course at The Manor Golf Club.

The Big Green will be back in action next weekend, at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Kannapolis, N.C., their final spring tournament before the Ivy League Championship at the end of the month.
