THIS WEEKEND’S SERIES
The two teams tied for second place in the Ivy League face off this weekend as the Dartmouth softball team hosts Cornell in a three-game series beginning Saturday.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is coming off a loss at Colgate on Tuesday afternoon, 6-3. With a 6-3 conference record the Big Red are contending for one of the top spots in the conference following a sweep of Brown last weekend. The team leads the Ancient Eight in overall batting average with .288 with Erin Rockstroh leading the team with a .436 average. Rockstroh and Megan Murray are in the top five of batters in the conference, as Rockstroh is second while Murray holds fifth with a .393 batting average. Heading up the Big Red pitching staff is Lisa Nelson with a 2.87 ERA, she has pitched 68.1 innings allowing 76 hits and 34 runs with 61 strikeouts.
LAST TIME AGAINST CORNELL
Last April the Big Green hosted Cornell for two games, taking wins in each 9-8 and 3-1. In the final game the home team had a late rally, after both teams were held scoreless through five and a half innings. Dartmouth scored three runs in the sixth, the first two off a two-RBI double from Morgan Martinelli and the third on an RBI single from Claire Bird batting Martinelli in. the Big Red lead the all-time series 38-17, with a 13-9 record in Hanover.
LAST TIME OUT
With a snowy forecast, the midweek game between Dartmouth and Holy Cross scheduled for Tuesday afternoon was canceled and will not be rescheduled. The Big Green are coming off a big weekend with two wins over the reigning Ivy champs Princeton on the road. Friday afternoon the road team split the doubleheader with the Tigers, falling 6-0 in the first game and rebounding to take an 8-6 win in the second game. Saturday’s series finale was an impressive win for Dartmouth, scoring a season-high 12 runs and matching the team record for most home runs in a game with four. Junior Taylor Ward hit two home runs, both of them with a runner on base, as the Big Green cruised to victory.
NELSON NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman Schae Nelson was tabbed as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week April 9 following her performance at Princeton last weekend. Against the Tigers, Nelson recorded a .600 batting average with six hits through three games including two doubles and one RBI. She also scored three runs and posted a .900 slugging percentage as she helped Dartmouth take two wins over Princeton.

Following this series the Big Green will hit the road for one final road series at Harvard next weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 and one game on Sunday, April 22.
