THIS WEEKEND’S GAMES
This weekend the Dartmouth softball team opens up the 2018 season at Florida Atlantic University, playing four different teams in the FAU Strike Out Cancer Tournament.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANES
Tulsa has already played nine games this year after competing in the Cowgirl Classic and the Texas A&M Invitational. With a 3-6 record currently, the Golden Hurricanes most recently fell to Iowa in the Texas A&M tournament, 11-3. Junior Julia Hollingsworth leads the team with eight runs, two RBIs with a .333 batting average through nine games.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES
UIC already started the season and currently holds a 2-2 record, but has had to cancel the last seven games scheduled, missing the Campbell/Cartier Classic in California last weekend, and two games slated to play Bradley in Illinois, all because of weather. The Flames opened their season at No. 8 LSU, falling 3-0, before taking part in the Mardi Gras Classic where they defeated Samford but split the games with Iowa, losing the Friday game 3-0 and coming back to win Sunday 6-4. Senior Taylor Cairns leads UIC with five runs and one RBI with a .364 batting average.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Texas State has a similar advantage to Tulsa, being able to start the season earlier because of a warmer climate. The Bobcats have already etched 10 games into their season record, currently 6-4 after taking down San Diego in the 2018 Littlewood Classic last weekend, 2-1. Three players for Texas State have scored six runs so far this season, Jaclyn Molenaar, Bailee Carter and this week’s Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, Hailey MacKay.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Host Florida Atlantic has already tallied 11 games this season, with a 6-5 record after falling to Missouri last weekend 7-2. Junior Madisyn Palmer leads the Owls with 11 runs, eight RBIs and one homer with a .371 batting average. Senior Tatum Buckley has also been a force for FAU with 10 RBIs and two home runs, while senior Emily Lochten has scored 10 runs for the Owls, hit five RBIs and two home runs.
Dartmouth faced the Owls twice in the 2013 FAU Invitational and fell 5-0, and 2-1 to the host team. The Big Green have taken on UIC on two different occasions, falling to the Flames in 2006 4-0 and facing the 2010 ranked team falling 16-1. Texas State and Tulsa are the only teams in the tournament that Dartmouth has not previously played against.
Florida Atlantic has a tournament page with the schedule of all games including the game tracker for live stats. The Saturday evening game against FAU will be streamed on fausports.tv so fans can watch the Big Green play against the host Owls.
Following opening weekend at FAU, Dartmouth will head to SEC country to participate in the Razorback Invitational hosted by Arkansas March 2-4.
