HANOVER, N.H. – For the second consecutive year, Dartmouth softball’s Katie McEachern has been named Ivy League Player of the Year and five other players have earned All-Ivy recognition, as announced by the league office on Thursday.

It is also the third consecutive season a member of the Big Green has been bestowed with Player of the Year honors after senior Morgan McCalmon was tabbed for the award in 2014. Harvard’s Morgan Groom was named Pitcher of the Year and Rhianna Rich earned Rookie of the Year honors. Princeton’s Lisa Van Ackeren took home Coach of the Year honors after the Tigers defeated the Crimson to become the first road team to win the Ivy League Championship Series since its inception in 2007.

McEachern closed out her phenomenal career in a Dartmouth uniform by rising to the top of the school’s all-time list in home runs (40), RBIs, (129), runs (128) and hits (203). She also finished with a career batting average of .380 for the best career average by any player in Hanover.

This season the San Diego, California native batted .442, the second highest average of her four years and led the Ivy League in home runs for the majority of the season, finishing with 12. She also knocked in five doubles and three triples this season adding to her team-high 53 hits. McEachern’s impressive offensive statistics also earned her a place on the All-Ivy First Team.

Also grabbing First Team All-Ivy Honors for the second straight season was junior Karen Chaw. The Castro Valley, California native hit .293, starting 40 of 42 games played. She recorded 29 RBIs with 39 hits and emerged as a clutch hitter in the designated player role. Her home run in extra innings against Penn on April 8 led the Big Green to a 4-1 win in the team’s home opener at Dartmouth Softball Park.

Four members of the Big Green earned Second Team All-Ivy accolades, including Dartmouth’s top starting pitcher McCalmon. With a 16-7 record in the circle, McCalmon led the league in wins with a 2.71 ERA and 116 strikeouts. The Norman, Oklahoma native also earned three saves in her 28 appearances in her final season in Hanover.

Maddie Damore also earned a spot on the Second Team after she hit .266 with 25 RBIs and started in all 41 games she played in. Freshman Morgan Martinelli had a solid rookie season, securing a spot on the Second Team batting .377 second to McEachern. Martinelli also hit a team-high 14 doubles and two home runs with 22 RBIs.

Sophomore Lourlin Lara was tabbed for the Second Team after she emerged as a threat not just at the plate, but on the base paths as well, stealing 13 bases without being thrown-out. The Conroe, Texas native hit .323 and started 38 of 39 games played and totaled 40 hits, which included a team-leading four triples.
