LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Dartmouth softball team fell to Sacramento State, 9-1 on the second day of the LMU Tournament on Saturday night in Los Angeles, California.

With the loss, the Big Green are now 0-11-1, while the Hornets improve to 8-12-1

Dartmouth sent Breanna Ethridge to the circle where she pitched five and a third innings and struck out four batters.

After a scoreless first inning, the Hornets struck in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs. With two outs and runners at the corners, Nikki Gialketsis singled to center field for the RBI base hit. After another base hit, Sacramento State loaded the bases and put three more runs across when Zamari Hinton reached on an error.

A scoreless third and fourth gave way to the fifth when the Hornets added to their advantage. With one out, Sacramento State put two runners in scoring position and scored when Jessica Ravetti hit a sacrifice fly to left field. On the next at bat, Shelby Johnston singled to left field, plating another run, giving the Hornets a 6-0 lead.

The Big Green would get one of these runs back in the top of the sixth when Calista Almer hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Alyssa Jorgensen.

In the bottom half of the inning, Sacramento State put the game away for good with a trio of runs. A pair of singles and a groundout put two runners in scoring position for the Hornets, when Suzy Brookshire ripped a single to left field which plated a run.

The next batter, Mo Spieth also hit an RBI single, this time to right field which scored Hinton. Sydney Rasmussen ended the game via the run rule when she hit an RBI single to left field, to clinch the 9-1 victory for her team.

Dartmouth will return to action tomorrow playing a pair of games against the host school, Loyola Marymount.
