Throughout the summer, will be focusing on members of the Class of 2019 who are currently in their "Sophomore Summers."

The latest installment features Lucas Ribeiro of the men’s track & field teams. A thrower from Belmont, Massachusetts, Ribeiro put together a memorable afternoon back in May when he won the discus at the New England Championship, taking the title as the best in the event of any individual from across the region’s colleges and universities. He would go on to represent the Big Green in the event at the 2017 NCAA East Regional in Kentucky at the end of the month. What have you been doing during your sophomore summer?
Lucas Ribeiro: During the weekdays, I spend most of my time doing research within the Earth Science Department, working as a floor assistant at Zimmerman Gym and doing my summer workouts. During the weekends, I have been exploring the Upper Valley, doing some hikes and other adventures.

DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
LR: Foco or ’53 commons. During the fall offseason time I spent over an hour at dinner just talking to teammates and relaxing a little. Also being a thrower, the dining hall will always be our favorite place.

DS: What was it in the recruiting process that sold you on Dartmouth?
LR: I visited Dartmouth during homecoming weekend. The tradition and the alumni appreciation for the college was the deciding factor. Everyone I spoke to was extremely positive and only had great things to say. We all love this place.

DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
LR: I would want to swap with Cole Andrus. He is someone that I have no idea what goes through his mind. An absolutely absurd character in a good way.
DS: If you could play another sport at Dartmouth, what would it be and why?
LR: Football, I was recruited out of high school by Dartmouth Football and I would for sure play it if I still had a chance. The majority of my best friends and fraternity brothers play football, so it would be awesome getting to spend time with them playing a sport we all love.
DS: Outside of sports, what are you most passionate about?
LR: I am very passionate about woodworking and music.

DS: If you participate in any service activities, what are they and how did you get involved?
LR: I have been very involved with community service throughout high school and college. I do not remember exactly how I got involved, but I have so many blessings in my life.

DS: Other than your parents, who has had the greatest influence on your life?
LR: Richard Rosen. Richard has been my legal guardian for about seven years now. I moved from Brazil to the United States when I was 14 years old into Dr. Rosen's house. Since then, we have established an amazing friendship. I have learned so much from him.

DS: Who would play you in the movie of your life?
LR: Michael Scott (from ‘The Office’).

DS: How is Hanover different or similar to where you grew up?
LR: I grew up in a farmland around the southeastern area of Brazil, so honestly it’s somewhat similar.

DS: What’s the app you use most on your phone?
LR: Instagram.

DS: What show do you binge watch?
LR: ‘The Office.’ I have probably watched the entire show about 3-4 times.

DS: If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
LR: Brazil, my entire family still lives there and I would love to get go spend sometime with them.
