HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women’s soccer team took its first loss of the season Friday night to No. 25 Long Beach State, 1-0.

The Big Green drops to 2-1-0 with the defeat, while Long Beach improves to 3-1-1.

Sophomore midfielder Ayana Robles scored the only goal — her first career goal — in the 55th minute, and was assisted by senior forward Tori Bolden.

Dartmouth had plenty of possession time, but the 49ers defense was up to the task.  Long Beach outshot Dartmouth 14-9, with eight shots on goal forcing seven saves from Big Green keeper Mariel Gordon.  Gordon now has 14 saves on the season.

Head coach Ron Rainey said this loss is an early season lesson for his team in playing ranked teams on the road.

“I am really proud of the way our team traveled across the country and played on a very good opponent’s home field,” Rainey said. “This was a top-25 opponent, we worked for 90 minutes and created chances. Now our reward really is to recover on this day off, then take on another top-25 team in Pepperdine, and we are looking forward to the opportunity.”

The Big Green offense was led by senior captain Bianca Ribi who posted three shots with one on goal, followed by sophomore midfielder Alyssa Neuberger who had shots.

Next up for Dartmouth is the Pepperdine Waves on Sunday at 4 p.m. EST.
