PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Dartmouth women’s soccer team held Penn scoreless through 97 minutes of play before a goal in overtime took a 1-0 win for the Quakers.
Both teams battled for possession during the entirety of the match, and the Big Green outshot Penn 15-8, even with several shots on goal both teams were unable to find the back of the net in regulation.
Quakers’ keeper Kitty Qu had her hands full with six saves forced by the Dartmouth offense. Senior Bianca Ribi had a well-placed header shot in the 51st minute of play that was saved by Qu, among other attempts from the road team’s attack to score.
“This game hurts,” said head coach Ron Rainey. “Our effort was great and we were able to do nice things in possession, with shots and pressure. I was extremely proud of how we approached the trip and playing on the road, now we just have to keep grinding. I believe we will, and look forward to seeing how we train next week in preparation for Columbia.”
Dartmouth moves to 6-8-0 on the season with an 0-4-0 Ivy League record, while Penn improves to 4-6-3 and 2-1-1 in conference play. The Big Green will return to action next weekend hosting Columbia, on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Hanover.
