PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Dartmouth women’s basketball team snapped its slide with a hard-fought, 92-88 overtime win over Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday night.

With the victory, the Big Green improve to 7-17 overall, 2-9 in Ivy League play, while the Bears fall to 14-10, 5-6 in conference play.

In a game that featured a lightning quick pace with 17 lead changes, Dartmouth was able to prevail thanks to solid shooting from the field going 33-for-61 with eight total three pointers. Five of those threes came from No. 33 Andi Norman, who led all scorers with 22 points, just four points shy of her career-high set back in December of this season.

“Andi is lethal from beyond the arc,” said Belle Koclanes, the Gail Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach of Dartmouth Women's Basketball. “We keep talking to Andi about catching to score every time she catches the ball because she has that weapon of a three point shot. Every time she catches the ball, we want defenders shaking in their boots, but you got to show it every time and she’s starting to do that.”

Three additional members of the Big Green also finished the night in double-figures including Olivia Smith and Kate Letkewicz who each scored 15. Senior Fanni Szabo also had a solid night with 13 points.

In the first, it was Norman who led Dartmouth to one of its best starts of the season with nine points off of three treys before the first quarter media timeout. After a back-and-forth second stanza, the Big Green found themselves up 40-36 at the half.

“Brown loves to plat that up-tempo pace,” Koclanes said. “The first time we played Brown we tired to slow them down at our place, but we can run with Brown. We pushed when we had high percentage shots and when we didn’t have anything we maintained control.”

In the third, both teams continued the quick pace of play which included a block and layup by the Bear’s Shayna Mehta to give Brown a 57-55 advantage late in the quarter. Mehta finished night with 20 points for the Bears and was one of five Brown players to end the night in double figures.

Late in the fourth, Mehta stepped up again with a three to cut the Big Green’s lead to 76-75. With 34 seconds to play in the quarter, Norman sun two free throws, but the Bear’s Justine Gaziano hit a layup as the clock ticked down to 10 seconds to play, sending the game into overtime.

Brown came out strong in the extra frame with a quick 7-3 run, but a three by Norman and field goal by Szabo kept Dartmouth in the contest. In the game’s final minutes, Olivia Smith helped seal the victory for the Big Green. With a minute to play, Smith nailed a jumper to put her team ahead, 87-85.

In the last 15 seconds of the game, Smith made 1-of-2 from the charity stripe before recording a steal to end any threat of a Brown comeback.

Dartmouth returns to action tomorrow night when the Big Green head to Yale for the final road contest of the season. The game can be seen live in HD on the Ivy League Digital Network.
