PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Led by double-doubles by freshman Mallen Bischoff and sophomore Tori Dozier, the Dartmouth volleyball team defeated Brown, 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21) on Friday evening. The Big Green improved to 8-12 overall and 4-7 in Ivy League play, while the Bears dipped to 6-16 and 1-10.

Bischoff had 15 kills and 14 digs, while Dozier ended the night with 41 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Lauren Douglas was first with 20 digs.

"We played through the ups and downs of each game," head coach Gilad Doron said, "and I thought we made plays when we needed to and go stronger as the game went on. I was very proud of our team fight and contributions from different players at different times."

There were 10 ties in the first very close set. With the score at 4-4, the Bears got a two-point lead, only to have the Green move ahead thanks to kills by sophomore Carly Tower, Bischoff and senior Sara Lindquist (7-6). The teams traded points until Dartmouth got its biggest lead (14-10), but Brown started to work its way back. Five ties later and with the score at 22-all, the Bears made it to set point (24-22). A Brown error held them there for one more point, but a kill gave set one to the home team (25-23).

The early parts of set two went in the Big Green’s favor, as a four-point run off kills by Bischoff and Tower and a pair of Brown errors made it 8-4 in favor of Dartmouth. Brown turned things around to pull ahead, 12-10, and remained a point or two ahead until four straight off kills by Tower, Lindquist and freshman Tola Akinwumi gave the lead back to the Green (19-18). The Bears were always right there, but Dartmouth made it a 1-1 match following an error by the Bears (25-23).

Dartmouth led for the majority of the third set to pick up its second win of the night. Brown managed to tie the score at both 15 and 16, but that was the last time the Bears were able to get that close to the Big Green. Following some kills by Lindquist and Akinwumi and a few Brown errors, the score was 24-20 in Dartmouth’s favor. The Bears got one point closer, but a Bischoff kill ended it (25-21).

Brown got off to a good start in the fourth set, going on a 5-1 run to put some distance between them and the Big Green, but kills by Akinwumi and Bischoff and a pair of Brown errors tied the score at 5-5. Six ties and an 8-2 run later and Dartmouth had a 20-14 advantage. The Bears worked their way back into the game until they were only trailing by three, but a Lindquist kill ended the match (25-21)

The Big Green will play their final road game of 2017 on Saturday, taking on Yale at 5 p.m.
