HANOVER, N.H. – Head coach Gilad Doron announced the 2016 Dartmouth volleyball team awards at an end-of-season banquet. Four Big Green players were recognized for their performances throughout the season.
Astarita appeared in all but one of the team’s 93 sets, starting all 25 matches. She led the team with 257 kills and 2.79 kills per set and was second with 232 digs and 58 total blocks. She reached her 1,000th career kill at home in a 3-2 win over Cornell on Oct. 14 and sits in fourth in the all-time record book with 1,107 career kills. She was named All-Tournament at both the Dartmouth and WVU invitationals and was MVP at the Sacred Heart Invite. Astarita was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and was All-Ivy Honorable Mention.
The Servant Leader award is given to the player who always puts her team before herself and embodies the core values of Dartmouth volleyball. Lujan saw action in 87 sets throughout her fifth year on the team and led the team with 18 solo blocks and 73 block assists for a total of 91. She was also second among the Big Green with a .313 hitting percentage and hit over .500 five times during the year. At the conclusion of the season, she was named First Team All-Ivy.
Freshman Maddy Schoenberger was named Most Improved on the team. She appeared in 25 sets during her first season on the team and ended up third with 83 assists. She also had three service aces and 45 digs.
Classmate Abby Kott was selected as the Rookie of the Year. Throughout her 67 sets, she recorded 89 kills, 50 total blocks and four aces and was first on the team with her .225 hitting percentage, hitting over .500 five times during the season. She had a season-high 10 kills in back-to-back matches against Niagara and Hartford.
