HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth volleyball senior Emily Astarita was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, as announced on Thursday. This is the first time in her career that she has been honored by the organization.

Astarita is the only player from the Ivy League to be named to any of the three teams.

A neuroscience major from Setauket, New York, Astarita has appeared in and started all 21 of the team’s matches so far, not missing even one of the 77 sets played. She leads the Big Green with 223 kills, 2.90 kills per set and 731 total attacks, is second with 49 total blocks and is third with 195 digs.

Less than a month ago, Astarita earned her 1,000th career kill in the 3-2 victory over Cornell at home, becoming just the sixth player in program history to reach the milestone. Since that time, she has moved up from sixth in the Dartmouth all-time record book to fourth with 1,073.

The 2016 season is slowly coming to a close. This weekend, the Big Green will play their final road matches of the season, facing Columbia on Friday and Cornell on Saturday. The following weekend, Nov. 11-12, Dartmouth will host Brown and Yale to end the season.

The Big Green co-captain will appear on the national ballot and will vie for Academic All-America honors to be voted on in a few weeks.
