LEXINGTON, Ky. – Four members of the women's track & field team competed in the first day of competition Thursday at the 2017 NCAA East Regional at the University of Kentucky.

Senior Helen Schlachtenhaufen advanced to Saturday's regional final in the 1500m as she qualified thanks to a 13th-place finish in 4:22.85. Schlachtenhaufen won her heat, earning one of the automatic berths into the final with a chance to move on to Oregon and the NCAA National Championship in Oregon next month.

Saturday's national quarterfinal is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. barring any unforeseen weather issues that plagued and delayed several events on Thursday in the Blue Grass State.

Junior Bridget Flynn finished higher than her seeding, but will not be moving on as she ran to a 34th-place finish in 4:27.95.

Freshman Julia Valenti's very successful first season with the Big Green came to an end as she finished 31st overall in the pole vault. The rookie cleared 3.80m on her second attempt, before clearing 3.95m on her third and final attempt. That height ended up being her final measurement as she stalled on the 4.10m bar.

Finally, senior Moriah Morton was 47th in the javelin with a 38.01m on her second of three throws.
