Running fast and jumping high, Big Green tracksters are making their mark for Dartmouth's track and field teams. Freshman Donovan Spearman ran his personal best in the 60m, which happens to be the second fastest time ever run by a Dartmouth athlete. On her first attempt at vaulting 12-7.5, sophomore Julia Valenti earned nine points for the Big Green in their win over Vermont, Maine and Brown last weekend.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.

Each week, will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Julia Valenti, So., North Reading, Mass., Jumps, Women's Track & Field

The Big Green women dominated the field on Saturday, winning their home meet by 55 points. No where was the team more dominating than in the pole vault where the top-five individuals were all from the home team in green and white. Leading the way for Dartmouth was Julia Valenti, who cleared three heights on her first try en route to the win and nine points toward her team’s score. Valenti’s final clearance came at 12-7.5/3.85m on her only attempt at the height, giving her the event victory.

Donovan Spearman, Fr., Gardenia, Calif.,  Sprints, Men's Track & Field

Won the final of the 60m in a personal-best 6.82, eclipsing his previous PR by three-hundredths of a second. That time posted in the final not only won him the event and gave Dartmouth nine points toward the team standings — for a meet they won by just two points — but also was the second-fastest mark in school history. The freshman sprinter was also the top qualifier, advancing to the final by running a 6.86 in the prelims.
