HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green women’s track & field team took the title Sunday at the Dartmouth Relays for the seventh year in a row.
Dartmouth posted 202 team points, an amazing 109 more than second-place UMass Amherst.
Once again this season, the Big Green were led by freshman Cha'Mia Rothwell and her outstanding individual effort in her first Dartmouth Relays. Rothwell not only won the 60m hurdles (8.59) and the long jump, but she won the latter with a school-record jump of 19-6.25/5.95m.
Rothwell was the second-place finisher in the 60m finals, but still earned another 10 points as the top collegiate runner by crossing in 7.62.
The 800m was a clean sweep of scoring for the Dartmouth women as all six runners in the points wore the green and white uniform of the home team. Claire Dougherty (2:13.02) took the top spot and was followed by Alexa Jennings (2:13.20), Abby Linvingston (2:15.38), Annalisa Crowe (2:15.55) and Margaret Tuthill (2:16.37). After a runner from a club team, Lauren Archer (2:17.40) was seventh and picked up the final point.
Like Rothwell in the 60m, Helen Schlachtenhaufen was second in the 3000m, but earned 10 points as the top collegiate runner, finishing in 9:54.36. Olivia Lantz (9:59.23) and Dianna Vizza (10:04.26) were the next two to cross, picking up even more points for the home team.
A similar situation was true for Folasade Akinfe in the triple jump, finishing second, but add 10 points for her team’s total. Akinfe’s best mark measured 38-8.75/11.80m.
The Green and White also earned big points in the relays as the 4x400m group of Marissa Evans, Aliyah Gallup, Katy Sprout and Kayla Gilding claimed a win in 3:59.01. Dartmouth ran four teams in the event, taking first, second, fourth and fifth, respectively.
