HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women’s tennis senior co-captain Julia Schroeder was recognized with an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regional year-end award on Monday, receiving the ITA/Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship.
The award goes to a Division I women’s tennis player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced the team’s performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. It dates back to 1997 and is in memory of the late and widely admire Penn women’s tennis coach, Cissie Leary.
The ITA award follows Ivy League recognition for the Chicago native last month. Schroeder was named first team All-Ivy in doubles and was tabbed to the second team for singles. The last time she received an award from the ITA was when she was named a scholar athlete as a rookie.
A pre-med neuroscience major, Schroeder concluded her final season at Dartmouth by going 11-10 in singles dual matches, primarily playing at the No. 2 position.
In doubles, she and partner Abigail Chiu went 11-9 throughout the spring and 5-2 in Ivy play. The duo won the title at the ITA Northeast Regional in October and went on to play at the ITA National Fall Championship.
