PRINCETON, N.J. Dartmouth women’s tennis senior captain Kristina Mathis was named the Ivy League Player of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Also being recognized by the league were fellow senior captain Julia Schroeder and freshman Abigail Chiu.

Mathis was a unanimous selection as the Player of the Year and automatically earned a spot on the first team for singles. She is the third Big Green player to receive the honor in the last 19 years, after Taylor Ng in 2015 and Rebecca Dirksen in 1999.

A staple at No. 1 singles this season, Mathis went 23-13 overall and 12-7 in dual matches, including 6-1 in Ivy play. She ended the regular season on a four-match winning streak, taking down players from Cornell, Columbia, Penn and Princeton. After a good spring, she jumped into the national rankings at No. 100 at the beginning of April and wrapped up the year at No. 107.

Mathis has been named All-Ivy every year, being selected to the first team for doubles each time. This is the first time she has appeared on the list for singles.

For the first time in her career, Schroeder was recognized for both singles and doubles play, being named second team for singles and first team for doubles. Schroeder went 15-13 overall and 11-10 in singles dual matches in 2017-18, primarily playing at the No. 2 position.

Paired up since the very beginning of the season at No. 1 doubles, Schroeder and Chiu – who was also named first team for doubles – went 17-14 overall and 11-9 in dual matches, including going 5-2 in Ivy League matches. The Big Green duo won the title at the ITA Northeast Regional in October and went on to play at the ITA National Fall Championship, defeating North Carolina by default and falling to Kentucky and Northwestern. The doubles team ended the season on a four-match winning streak.

Dartmouth wrapped up the season with an overall record of 11-11 and a 4-3 mark in conference play to tie for third with Columbia and Brown.
