PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Dartmouth women’s tennis team defeated Penn, 6-1, at the Hecht Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Big Green, which won their third straight match, improved to 11-10 overall and 4-2 in Ivy League play, while the Quakers fell to 9-12 and 2-4.

A 6-0 win by senior Julia Schroeder and freshman Abigail Chiu at No. 1 doubles, and a 6-2 victory by junior Allison Chuang and freshman Madison Hwang at No. 3 gave Dartmouth a 1-0 edge heading into singles. Senior Kristina Mathis and sophomore Racquel Lyn were up, 5-4, at the No. 2 spot when their match went unfinished.

Schroeder got singles started with her 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Marta Kowalska at the No. 2 position and, followed up by a 6-3, 6-2 win by No. 114 Mathis over Ria Vaidya at No. 1, the Green were up, 3-0. Chiu clinched with her 6-2, 7-6 victory over Ashley Zhu and play continued on three other courts.

Lyn’s match at the No. 4 position went to a super breaker and she walked away with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win over Jimena Rodriguez-Benito, while the Quakers’ lone point came at the No. 5 spot. Sophomore Chuyang Guan wrapped up the match in a super breaker, taking down OJ Singh.

Dartmouth will take on Princeton at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
