MALIBU, Calif. – Senior Kristina Mathis defeated a player ranked 25th in the country in Dartmouth’s 5-2 loss to No. 2 Pepperdine at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. The Big Green dipped to 7-6 overall, while the Waves improved to 9-1.

Pepperdine wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles positions gave the Wave the first point of the day. In the unfinished match at No. 3, junior Allison Chuang and freshman Maddie Hwang were narrowly trailing their opponents, 4-3.

Victories at the No. 3, 2, 4 and 6 positions allowed Pepperdine to clinch. Playing at the top spot against No. 25 Luisa Stefani, Mathis walked away with a 6-4, 6-3 win to get Dartmouth on the board. Sophomore Chuyang Guan followed that up with her victory at the No. 5 position, dropping the first set to Dzina Milovanovic, 6-4, before rebounding to win the second, 6-2, and the third set super breaker, 10-4.

The Big Green will end spring break on Friday by facing Long Beach State.
