HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women’s tennis team opened the 2018 portion of the season on Wednesday by defeating Boston University, 5-2, at the Boss Tennis Center.

Senior Shannon Mukerji and sophomore Chuyang Guan started the evening off with a 6-1 victory over their opponents at the No. 4 doubles position. That was followed by a 6-3 win by senior Kristina Mathis and sophomore Racquel Lyn at No. 2 and a 6-2 win by sophomore Allison McCann and freshman Maddie Hwang at the No. 3 spot.

The Big Green completed the doubles sweep with victories by senior Julia Schroeder and freshman Abigail Chiu at No. 1, and junior Allison Chuang and sophomore Catherine Cable at the No. 5 position. 

In singles, Schroeder picked up Dartmouth’s first singles point with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Remi Ramos at No. 2, while Hwang added a 6-2, 6-2 win of Dani Blaser at the No. 6 position. Playing at No. 1 against Iryna Kostirko, Mathis - who was ranked No. 78 in the most recent ITA rankings - clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-4 defeat. Chiu played well, taking down Lily Burchell in a third set super breaker.

The Green will return to Boss this Saturday, taking on Liberty for the first time ever at 1:00 p.m.
