PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Three Dartmouth women’s tennis players won four matches on day two of the ITA Northeast Regional Championship at Penn on Friday. Senior Kristina Mathis won both of her matches and will compete in the Round of 16 on Saturday.
Three of the Big Green’s five second-round singles matches went to three sets and Dartmouth came out on the winning side of two of them. Sophomore Racquel Lyn dropped her first set to Harvard’s Annika Ringblom, 6-3, but came back to win the remaining two, 6-4, 7-5, while freshman Abigail Chiu also dropped her first set to Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph of UConn, 6-3, rebounding to win the others, 6-3, 6-4. Mathis had an easy 6-3, 6-2 victory over her opponent from Sacred Heart to advance.
Later in the day, Mathis took down Yale’s Mimi Levine, 6-4, 6-2. Chiu had another three-setter, winning the second set, 6-4, against Priyanka Shah, but dropping the other two. Lyn had to take on top-seeded Gabriela Knutson, falling by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Dartmouth will return to the court on Saturday morning for day three of the championship.
