WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Dartmouth women’s tennis kicked off the 2017-18 season at the 25th annual Tribe Invitational on Friday. The three-day tournament features host William & Mary, Dartmouth, Iowa and Old Dominion, playing the latter in singles and doubles on day one.
In doubles, senior Kristina Mathis and freshman Abigail Chiu paired up to face Holly Hutchinson and Yulia Starodubsteva, falling to the Monarch duo by a score of 6-1. Junior Allison Chuang and sophomore Allison McCann dropped their match to Louie McLelland and Adriana Rajkovic by the same score, while senior Julia Schroeder and sophomore Racquel Lyn fell to Victoria Olivarez and Nataliia Vlasova.
Although the Monarchs claimed all of the singles matches, the Big Green definitely did not make it easy on them. In her match against Vlasova, Chiu dropped a close first set, 7-6, before rallying to take the second, 6-4. With it all coming down to the third set, the ODU player won, 7-5. McCann took the first set against McLelland, 6-0, but dropped the remaining two, 6-4, 6-1.
The Big Green will return to the court on Saturday to face W&M at 10 a.m.
