ITHACA, N.Y.  – No. 48 Dartmouth women’s tennis battled back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Cornell, 4-3, at the Reis Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. The Big Green improved to 14-4 overall and 2-2 in Ivy League play, while the Big Red dipped to 12-6 and 2-2.

Cornell started things off by winning at the No. 2 doubles, but senior Taylor Ng and junior Kristina Mathis had a 6-3 victory over Marika Cusick and Alexandra D’Ascenzo at No. 1 to tie things up. Play was incredibly close on court three and it was the Big Red that won by a score of 7-5, giving the first point to the home team.

Wins at the No. 5 and 4 singles positions made it 3-0 in Cornell’s favor, but Dartmouth soon turned it around. Senior Jacqueline Crawford got the first victory of the day in the form of a 6-1, 7-6(6) defeat of D’Ascenzo at No. 2, while Mathis had a 7-5, 0-6, 6-0 win over Priyanka Shah on court two. Ng took down Cusick at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 to tie the score at 3-3.

At No. 6, freshman Allison McCann and Madison Stevens fought for the final point. The Big Red junior won the first set, 6-4, while the Big Green rookie took the second, 6-1. McCann played well to claim the third set, 6-3, and clinch the match.

On Saturday, Dartmouth will take on Columbia at 2 p.m.
