PRINCETON, N.J. – The ninth-ranked Dartmouth women’s squash team defeated No. 12 George Washington, 6-3, to advance to the finals of the Krutz Cup in Division B of the CSA Team Nationals on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, the Big Green improve to 6-8 overall, while the Diplomats fell to 8-9 to conclude their season.
Senior Maddie Fraser had a tough first game, but showed maturity in quickly winning the next three to win her match. Junior Janel Gaube won in a long five-game match. She came back from a 7-10 deficit in the fifth game to win 12-10 for the crucial victory. Meanwhie, freshman Julia Potter fell to her opponent in three.
Sophomore Emma Roberts clinched her win for Dartmouth in three short games in a very solid performance. Junior Zainab Molani also fought through a long five-game match, coming from two games down to turn the match around. She finished with a terrific 11-8 win in the fifth frame. Freshman Annie Blasberg lost a tough five-game match, coming back from being down 2-1.
Freshman Junnat Anwar had no trouble dominating her opponent in her first two games, winning 11-3, 11-1. In the third game, Anwar started well, but a few errors crept in before she regrouped to force extra points and win the game 13-11. This win also gave Dartmouth the overall match victory. Junior Becky Brownell won in four games with a strong performance, while captain Jacqueline Barnes fell to her opponent in three.
The Big Green return to the court tomorrow where Dartmouth will face Drexel in Kurtz Cup finals.
