NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The eleventh-ranked Dartmouth women’s squash team defeated No. 10 Drexel 5-4 to win the Kurtz Cup in New Haven on Sunday to wrap up the regular season.
The Kurtz Cup is named after former Big Green head coach Aggie Kurtz and it will be the first time the cup will be back in Hanover since 2012.
With the victory, Dartmouth improves to 8-9, while the Dragons fall to 11-7.
Freshman Emma Roberts won the deciding match, 3-0 in the third round to propel the Big Green to victory.
Junior Madeline Fraser got the day started with a 3-0 victory, meanwhile sophomore Janel Gaube won her match 3-1 after falling in the third game. Sophomore Rebecca Brownell fought hard for every rally of her match, recording a 3-2 win.
In the second round of matches, freshman Carly Rizzuto swept her opponent in straight games. Sophomore Zainab Molani won her first two games, but eventually fell in the fifth. Senior Tori Dewey competed well, but fell 3-1 in her final match in a Dartmouth uniform.
The Big Green return to action next weekend for the CSA Individual Championship in Stamford, Conn.
