NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The eleventh-ranked Dartmouth women’s squash team defeated No. 12 Williams, 7-2 on Saturday to advance to the Kurtz Cup finals in New Haven.
The victory improves the Big Green to 7-9, while the Ephs fall to 14-11.
Sophomore Janel Gaube continued her strong season, winning her match 3-0. Meanwhile, junior Madeline Fraser and sophomore Rebecca Brownell both won close 3-2 matches. After slipping in the the third and fourth games, Brownell rallied to win the fifth game to get Dartmouth off to a solid start.
In the second round of matches, sophomore Zainab Molani continued the Big Green’s dominance, winning a closely contested 3-0 match. Senior Tori Dewey and freshman Carly Rizzuto fought hard, but couldn’t find their footing as each fell in straight games.
With the Big Green needing one more victory to win the match, they looked to senior Lydie McKenzie who clinched the win for Dartmouth, defeating her opponent 3-1. Freshman Emma Roberts went back and forth with her opponent before securing a 3-2 win. Junior Jacqueline Barnes finished the night taking her opponent down in four games after the first game went to extra points.
The Big Green return to action on Sunday taking on Drexel for the Kurtz Cup.
