HANOVER, N.H. – Over the weekend the Dartmouth sailing team returned to the still cold water to continue spring action in three regattas hosted in the Northeast.

In the Friis Trophy the Big Green tied for third place with Boston College out of 10 teams, and the all-women squad that competed in the Joseph R. Duplin Women’s Team Race took third place as well. A third group represented Dartmouth in the BC Team Race in Boston, finishing fifth out of six.

Roger Williams University hosted the Friis race, where Christopher Williford, Sophia Diserio, Rebecca McElvain, Paige Clarke, Taggart Bonham, Erik Weis, Duncan Williford and Eloise Burn competed for Dartmouth. Even with chilly temperatures and some occasional snow, the Big Green fought at getting back into the routine of competing with tough Northeastern teams and tied for third with Boston College’s crew as Yale took the win and host RWU came in second place.

In the BC Team Race, Noah Simmons, Alyssa Berger, Christopher Cheng, Sarah Chong, Michael Tellini and Max Clapp represented the green and white, competing against five strong New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association teams. Host team Boston College took the win, as Harvard finished second and Bowdoin came in third, while Dartmouth finished fifth.

The Big Green women’s squad were just up the road, taking part in the Duplin Trophy hosted by Tufts. Emma White, Mary Amis, Audrey Giblin, Lisa Genthner, Peninah Benjamin and Kathryn Hall all competed for Dartmouth, leading to a third place finish out of nine teams. Ivy League foe Yale won the trophy while Tufts came in second place, but the Big Green finished ahead of Brown, MIT, Boston College and Boston University, all teams they will continue to face as the season continues.

Dartmouth is scheduled to participate in four regattas this weekend, continuing spring competition in three events in Massachusetts and one in Rhode Island.
