HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team started the spring season in the Sharpe Team Race Trophy over the weekend hosted by Brown University. The team was scheduled to compete in the Thames Team Race in New London, Connecticut, but did not have participants in that competition.

Although there was a nor’easter that caused strong winds in the area, the sailors were able to get on the water Sunday, with a total of 28 races from 10:30 am to 2 p.m. before the final four round took place in the afternoon.

MIT took the win to start the season, while host Brown came in second and Harvard took third. The Big Green came in sixth place, defeating Connecticut College and Rhode Island, after two penalties to the Crimson.

Erik Weis, Duncan Williford, Max Clapp, Eloise Burn, Peninah Benjamin and Sophia Diserio competed for Dartmouth in the first of many spring races that are to come.

The Big Green have two weeks off before heading off to three different races for the weekend of March 24-25.
