HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth sailing team competed in two regattas over the weekend, taking eighth at the Owen/Mosbacher/Knapp Trophy Race.

A contingent of Big Green sailors headed south to New Haven, Connecticut where the host school, Yale, took first with 125 points, followed by Brown with 131 and Bowdoin (181). Dartmouth finished with 217 points and was represented by Audrey Giblin, Nate Johansson, Aly Berger and Sophia Diserio.

Saturday brought frustrating conditions with a light and shifty southeasterly breeze. However, on Sunday the wind picked up substantially and ranged from 10-12 knots. Dartmouth recorded three top five finishes in Division A with one victory and five top five finishes in Division B.

The Big Green also traveled to New London, Connecticut to compete for the Thompson Trophy. Once again the Bulldogs had a decent day on the water, taking first with 190 points. MIT finished second with 255, while the College of Charleston rounded out the top three. Dartmouth finished 13th with 401 points and the Big Green were represented by Erik Weis, Mia Steck, Jack McGraw, Peggy Kilvert, Mary Amis and Lisa Genthner.

Day one of racing brought a west-southwest wind that gusted to 8-10 knots for most of the afternoon. On Sunday, a light breeze in the morning gave way to a stronger sea-breeze at 3 p.m. In Division A, the Big Green tallied four top five finishes with one victory and rallied for five top five finishes in Division B.

Dartmouth returns to the water next weekend with multiple events including the Reed Trophy for the New England Women’s Championship.
