SAN DIEGO, Calf. – After one day of racing, the Dartmouth sailing team is in fourth place at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Match Racing National Championship in San Diego, California.

The Big Green are the only Ivy League representative at the San Diego Yacht Club in the 10-team field. Dartmouth went 6-3 in its first day on the water, with a crew consisting of Charles Lalumiere, Nate Greason and Rebecca McElvain.

Georgetown leads the field (8-1), followed by Hobart & William Smith Colleges (7-2) and College of Charleston (7-2).

After starting the day 2-2 in the round robin tournament, the Big Green rallied to finish the day strong. Dartmouth was able to use San Diego’s small lake and light air to its advantage, as the conditions were similar to what the Big Green see on Lake Mascoma in Enfield, New Hampshire.

Since Dartmouth finished in the top eight, it will advance to the quarter final round of the regatta tomorrow.
