The Big Green continues to have success in the early fall season with outstanding contributions from two athletes. Dartmouth football opened the 2011 season with a win at home over Colgate. Senior Nick Schwieger led the way with a trio of receptions and 175 rushing yards. The volleyball team was led to three sweeps in the Dartmouth Classic by the play of senior Annie Villanueva.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the DartmouthSports.com Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Nick Schwieger (Norton, Mass.) Football, Senior, Running Back

Schwieger became just the second Big Green back to amass 2,000 rushing yards in a career during a 37-20 victory over Colgate. He needed just 20 carries to rack up a pair of touchdowns and 175 yards on the ground, posting the ninth 100-yard game of his career. While the yardage was just his third highest total in college, he did set a personal high with his 8.75-yard average per carry. His first touchdown opened up a two-point game late in the third quarter, and his second with 3:46 to play left no doubt that Dartmouth would defeat the Raiders for just the second time in the last 12 meetings between the two teams. Schwieger also led the Big Green with a trio of receptions for 11 yards. With 2,015 career rushing yards, he needs only 238 more to surpass Al Rosier '91.

Annie Villanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Volleyball,

Senior middle blocker Annie Villanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.) made her mark for the Big Green this week tallying 43 kills on 70 total attempts. She only committed three attack errors for an outstanding .571 hitting percentage over the course of the four matches. In three of the four contests she hit over 600. She increased her league-leading season hitting percentage to .415. At Holy Cross, she had a season-high 15 kills. For the week, she totaled 11 total blocks for 0.85 blocks per set. She was also named to the Dartmouth Invitational all-tournament team.
