PHILADELPHIA – The Dartmouth field hockey team was bested by Penn in an Ivy League road game Saturday afternoon as the Quakers came away with a 3-0 conference win at Ellen Vagelos Field.

The loss snapped the Big Green’s win streak at two and dropped its record to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in games played against Ivy League opponents in 2017. Penn evened its record to 5-5 overall, while improving to 2-1 in Ancient Eight contests.

Gina Guccione got the game’s first score as her shot from deep inside the visitors’ defensive circle just barely trickled over the line in the ninth minute.

It would remain 1-0 through the remainder of the opening half with neither team able to find the back of the cage. Just under three minutes into the second stanza, however, Rachel Huang would build the lead to two on a tipped shot near the post.

The final marker of the day came in the 49th minute off the stick of Alexa Schneck who also had the double-overtime game winner in last year’s contest in Hanover.

Junior goalkeeper Hailey Valerio played well, despite the result, making nine stops, while Penn’s Ava Rosati made five saves in earning the shutout.

Dartmouth will wrap-up its four-game road trip next Saturday at Yale before coming home for a Sunday afternoon matinee against non-conference Providence. Both games will be carried on the Ivy League Network.
