Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding
student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Woodlands Credit Union
Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their
efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Abbey D'Agostino, (Topsfield, Mass.) Jr., Cross Country
After missing more than a month recovering from a nagging injury, D'Agostino returned to the course representing the Dartmouth women's cross country team and made an immediate impact Friday afternoon at the NCAA Northeast Regional. The junior harrier didn't skip a beat in her return, winning the individual title for the second year in a row and advancing to the NCAA Championship Meet this weekend in Louisville. Her time of 19:51.1 earned her the top spot, more than four seconds better than the second-place runner. For her efforts, D'Agostino also received All-Northeast Regional honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Gabas Maldunas was named the league’s co-Player of the Week after leading Dartmouth to a 67-54 victory in its season opener on Saturday night.
Maldunas was a force at both ends of the court, recording his fifth career double-double with a career-best 25 points and 10 rebounds, while swatting four shots and swiping three steals. He was 10-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the foul line, scoring 17 of his 25 points in the second half when the Big Green pulled away from Maine after leading at the break by two.
