HANOVER, N.H. - As the summer months wind down and change to fall on the calendar, the process of preparing for the 2013 campaign becomes the focal point for members of the Dartmouth field hockey team.

With one of the most successful seasons in the past decade in the rearview mirror, those Big Green players returning from last fall must turn the page to the next chapter.

Led by captains Olivia Quaglia and Jenn Weissbach, the 2013 version of the Green and White will face a challenging slate of opponents highlighted by Ivy League rival and defending NCAA National Champion Princeton at home on Sept. 21.

Junior Ali Savage, who, like Quaglia, was an All-Ivy First-Team player a season ago, is back this fall and looking to build on her 10-goal, 26-point sophomore campaign from 2012. Both figures led the team, while her six assists ranked second.

Junior Janine Leger and senior Sam Anderson posted 17 and 16 points, respectively, last fall to rank in the team’s top-five in scoring and will also be back in uniform in 2013 as is senior Maggie Scanlon and her 11 points.

Dartmouth will have a new look on the sidelines as well with the addition of Kate Heineman as the team’s newest assistant coach. A 2013 graduate of UMass, Heineman was a member of the Minutewomen last season when the Big Green made the trip to Amherst for the season opener. Now, she joins 14-year head coaching veteran Amy Fowler and second-year assistant Pattie Gillern in Hanover to begin her coaching career.

Fowler, who led her team to an 11-6 overall mark and a 6-1 record in Ivy League play in 2012, also welcomes five new faces to the fold as freshmen Paige Duffy, Natalie Ludwig, Joanne Nazareth, Jenna Schwenk and Heather Zezzo make up the Class of 2017 set to make their debuts in early September when the team opens the season in the Golden State for games against Cal (Sept. 6) and UC Davis (Sept. 8).

Recently, Fowler took the time to discuss her team and the upcoming season with DartmouthSports.com. Click on the video above for her complete interview.
