PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – The Dartmouth women’s crew team, who placed two boats in the grand final, closed out the 2013 Ivy League Championship in 8th place with 22 points. Sixth-place finishes in the second varsity eight and the second varsity four highlighted the Big Green’s afternoon.
Princeton won the 2013 Ivy League Championship with 81 points and claimed the league’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Championship by winning the first varsity eight race. Radcliffe took runner-up honors with 74 points while Brown (68), Cornell (55) and Yale (54) rounded out the top five.
Dartmouth’s top boat took seventh place with a time of 6:53.42, ahead of Penn’s boat that crossed the finish line with a time of 7:01.26. The Big Green, racing in the petite final, had a close race in their heat, taking fourth just four seconds behind Cornell, who crossed the finish line with a time of 6:54.14.
The second varsity eight had a great regatta and reached the grand final by taking second place in their heat. The Big Green were on the heels of Columbia, crossing the line just 0.3 seconds behind Columbia who won the heat. In the final, the Big Green placed sixth with a time of 7:04.10, behind the Lions who finished fifth.
Dartmouth’s second varsity four also advanced to the grand final after placing third in their heat. In the morning heat, the Big Green were four seconds behind the Cornell crew, who crossed with a time of 8:15.72. In the grand final, Dartmouth’s crew took sixth with a time of 8:30.26. The Big Green’s first varsity four placed eighth with a time of 8:10.93.
