Stevenson To Participate in National Team Freshman Camp
PRINCETON, N.J. –Dartmouth freshman rower Abby Stevenson (New Canaan, Conn.) has been selected to participate in the 2013 USRowing Women’s National Team Freshman Camp.
Stevenson, a rookie who has seen time in the first varsity eight this season, is one of 18 rowers who have been selected for the camp that will take place June 10-16 in Seattle. Five other rowers that also compete in the Ivy League will join Stevenson at the camp. This is the second consecutive season that the Big Green women have had a rower participate in a USRowing camp. Last season, Jamie Chapman participated in the Under-23 camp.
The camp is intended for athletes with elite level potential and aspirations, but who have only one or two years of collegiate rowing experience. The goal is to expose athletes to the U.S. National Team experience, train two-three times per day, row in a variety of boat categories, learn technical and physiological basics and train with athletes of similar caliber.
Olympic gold medalists Anna (Mickelson) Cummins and Mary Whipple will work with the athletes on and off the water, along with Conor Bullis, women's varsity assistant coach at the University of Washington.
