Q&A With Stuart Maeder

Why Dartmouth?
I picked Dartmouth because to me, it has the perfect balance between academics and athletics. I also love the area of New Hampshire and plan on enjoying all of the winters on the Dartmouth Skiway.

How long have you been rowing and what got you interested?
I have been rowing since my freshman year of high school. I started rowing mostly because my cousins who rowed told me that I had all the needed physiological characteristics of a good rower.

Have you won any awards?
I won first place for the 17 year old 2k at the 2011 Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints. I also attended the 2011 US Junior National Team's Selection camp where I was placed at stroke seat for the US 4+ at Junior Worlds.

Something interesting?
In the beginning of high school, I was really interested in going to Dartmouth as a soccer player, but ended up switching sports to rowing in recent years. I actually didn't know that Dartmouth had a crew team until one day I checked the athletic site and then realized that I could row for Dartmouth rather than play soccer for them.
