WASHINTGON, D.C. – Senior Alvin Heumann and junior Carson Spahr represented Dartmouth at the College Squash Association Individual Championships hosted by George Washington University over the weekend.

Heumann played in the Pool Trophy A Division featuring the top players, where he faced St. Lawrence’s Karim Ibrahim in the first round. Ibrahim took on Spahr one weekend ago in the team national championships, winning in three games, but Heumann was ready and defeated the Saints’ player swiftly in three games.

In the second round, Heumann’s opponent was David Ryan from Harvard, who faced Dartmouth’s Reg Anderson at home during the regular season. Ryan came out strong and defeated Heumann in three games, going on to win the Pool Trophy, becoming the national champion.

Spahr had success in the Molloy East Division, defeating three opponents on his way to the final round. The junior took down opponents from Virginia, Hobart and Franklin and Marshall, winning his first two matches in 3-0 fashion and taking his third game into five games.

Against Sanjay Jeeva from Franklin and Marshall, Spahr took the first game quickly, before going back and forth in the next four, winning the fifth game 15-13 to advance to the finals.

In the championship round of the Molloy division, the Milton, Massachusetts native faced St. Lawrence’s Belal Nawar, in five long games. Spahr took the first game 14-12 before falling in the second and holding strong defensively in the third to win 11-3. With a 2-1 lead he would only need one more win to take the victory, but Belal came out strong in the fourth game winning 11-6 and forcing a fifth game. The final game proved to be a long battle, with Belal coming out on top 16-14.
