HANOVER, N.H. - The 2012-13 season officially gets underway on Friday, Oct. 26 for the men's hockey team. However, two preseason games are on tap for the Big Green this weekend at Thompson Arena.

Making the trip to Hanover for Saturday and Sunday afternoon contests are McGill and Norwich.

The Redmen will be the first of the two opponents to make the trek to Thompson, coming in for a 4 p.m. tilt on Saturday. McGill is coming off a CIS National Championship in 2011-12, the first in the program's 136-year history. Taking the University Cup with a thrilling 4-3 overtime win against Western Ontario (Dartmouth's preseason opponent last season), the oldest organized hockey team in the world finally had its taste of a championship celebration.

McGill enters the weekend with a 1-3 overall record. That mark does not include its 3-1 preseason exhibition record or take into account a Friday night game against Harvard in Cambridge.

Norwich, like Dartmouth, gets its season going later than other schools. The Cadets' annual trip to Hanover is the start of its 2012-13 season, the same as it was a year ago when they were bested by the Big Green, 3-1.

Dartmouth fans saw a glimpse of things to come in that two-goal win for the Green and White on Oct. 23, 2011. All three tallies came from freshmen as Eric Neiley (Warminster, Pa.) scored once and Brandon McNally (Saugus, Mass.) added two third-period markers.

Classmate Tyler Sikura (Aurora, Ontario) assisted on both McNally's goals, while fellow first-year players Charlie Mosey (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Jesse Beamish (Mississauga, Ontario) had helpers on Neiley's game-opening score.

The Cadets and Big Green will get underway Sunday at 4 p.m. in a formal scrimmage.

Admission is free for both games and seating is general admission.

Regular season play will begin next weekend as the team will travel to Providence to take part in the Ivy Shootout hosted by Brown at Meehan Auditorium. The Big Green will take on Yale Friday (Oct. 27) at 4 p.m. and either Princeton or Brown Saturday (Oct. 27) depending on the outcome of the weekend's second game.
