GWINNETT, Ga. - Senior Doug Jones (Marietta, Ga.) of the Dartmouth men's hockey team has signed an amateur tryout contract (ATO) with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
Jones recently wrapped up his final season in a Big Green sweater, leading the team in scoring with 25 points on 11 goals and 14 assists.
His 78 career assists rank eighth all-time at Dartmouth, while his 107 points are tied for 23rd in the 106 seasons of Big Green hockey. Only seven players in that time have played more games in a Dartmouth uniform than Jones' 127 over four seasons.
Jones becomes the fourth member of this year's senior class to sign on with a pro squad following the conclusion of the team's quarterfinal series against Cornell. Jody O'Neill (Nepean, Ontario) and Dan Nycholat (Calgary, Alberta) also signed ATO's with the Stockton Thunder and Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL, while Connor Goggin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) made his pro debut in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Rockford IceHogs.
The Gladiators are the ECHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League (NHL).
After playing his entire collegiate career more than 1,000 miles from home, Jones' professional debut will come with a team that is located less than an hour from his hometown of Marietta, Ga.
The Gladiators are on the road this weekend with back-to-back games against the Greenville Road Warriors.
