HANOVER, N.H. - With a stellar final month of the 2011-12 regular season, Dartmouth freshman Brandon McNally (Saugus, Mass.) has been named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month for February.
McNally scored six goals in the month and added two assists for eight points.
His six goals in the month gave the winger 10 total markers
for the season against league opponents, good for the best figure amongst
first-year players in the league.
Had McNally not scored a goal the rest of the season, his February totals still would have placed him second in ECAC Hockey in freshman goal scoring in 2011-12.
After being held pointless the first weekend of the month at Princeton and Quinnipiac, McNally rattled off a six-game point streak the final three weekends of the regular season. The Dartmouth forward scored a goal in five of the team's final six games, but managed an assist in the game he was held without a tally against Brown on Feb. 18.
Twice in February McNally recorded multi-point games, scoring once and assisting on another goal at Yale (Feb. 17), while netting two against Clarkson this past Friday (Feb. 24) in a 6-4 victory.
His power-play goal against St. Lawrence (Feb. 25) was the final Big Green tally of the season, coming just 2:08 into the second period.
McNally led the Dartmouth contingent of rookies who finished
the season as the top goal-scoring freshman class in ECAC Hockey with 25.
Sophomore Cab Morris (Willmette, Ill.) was honored as the Goaltender of the Month for December, while Eric Neiley (Warminster, Pa.) was named the Rookie of the Week on Jan. 24. This is the first league honor for McNally.
The No. 9 Big Green will start the postseason Friday night at Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y., against No. 8 St. Lawrence. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
