José Lugo will begin his third season for the Big Green in 2013. Last year, Lugo guided the team a 2-22 mark, including 1-13 in conference play. He helped the team to a 16-9 mark overall and an 8-6 record in the Ivy League in 2011. His main responsibilities at Dartmouth include system coordination, opponent scouting, team travel and community relations. Lugo comes to Hanover after serving the past three years at Arizona State.

At Arizona State, Lugo was responsible for the internal operations of the program, which included community service, travel, marketing and promotions. Also working as a volunteer assistant coach for the Sun Devils, he helped ASU beat national runner-up California in the 2010 regular season. The Sun Devils also beat eventual Final Four participant USC.

During May of 2010, Lugo was the director of operations for the USA Volleyball Women's A2 National Teams. The squads took the gold and bronze medals at the 2010 USA Open National Tournament.

From 2006-2007, he was an assistant at South Mountain Community College where he helped turn the program from a last-place finish in their conference to a fifth-place finish, increasing their win total exponentially. Prior to his arrival at SMCC, Lugo coached at Desert Mountain High School, helping to lead the team to an Arizona State 5AA Championship.

Lugo graduated from Arizona State in 2010.
