LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Sarah Spangenberg competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's National Competition on Thursday afternoon. Spangenberg finished third nationally in both her events.

Spangenberg was third in both Novice over Fences and Novice on the Flat. She competed first on Monty and finished with a score of 82. On the flat she rode a horse from the University of Kentucky and proved that not knowing your horse didn't have to hamper a rider as she finished third again.

"We are so very proud of Sarah," said head coach Sally Batton. "She looked amazing and we're happy with the way she represented Dartmouth."

This is the highest finish ever for a Dartmouth rider at the National Competition. Samantha Parsons was the last Big Green rider to compete at Nationals in 2009.

"I am so happy with how I did here at Nationals," Spangenberg said. "Both my horses were really good draws, so I just needed to put in the ride. I have been working very hard all spring preparing for the three big competitions, Regionals, Zones, and then Nationals, so it was great that I had the opportunity for all that hard work to pay off. It was wonderful to finish my collegiate riding career on such a high note and amidst such tough competition."
