HANOVER, N.H. –The Dartmouth women's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with Brown on Saturday afternoon in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action at Thompson Arena.
The tie was the first of the year for the Big Green (4-12-1, 3-7-1 ECAC Hockey) and the fourth for the Bears (1-12-4, 0-8-2 ECAC Hockey). After erasing a one-goal deficit early in the third period, Dartmouth ran its unbeaten streak versus Brown to 15 games.
Another close contest for the Green and White saw three lead changes as eight of Dartmouth's last 10 games have been decided by a goal or less.
For the eighth time this season, Dartmouth got on the board first as freshman center Kennedy Ottenbreit tallied her second power-play goal of the season. The Grayson, Saskatchewan, native has been on a tear of late, scoring in three of the last four contests. Olivia Whitford started the play with a pass to Lindsey Allen, who fired a shot on goal. Allen’s bid was turned aside by Brown goaltender Aubree Moore and Ottenbreit slammed home the rebound.
Ottenbreit’s goal came 7:32 into the second period and just over two and a half minutes later Brown knotted the game at one as Janice Yang scored. Yang’s tally capped the scoring in the period as the conference rivals entered the final 20 minutes deadlocked.
Both offenses erupted in the final stanza as the teams combined to score four goals. Sarah Robson gave the Bears their first lead of the game with a goal just 39 seconds into the third. Three minutes later, Dartmouth tied it up as freshman Mackenzie St. Onge scored her second career goal.
Midway through the period Lindsey Allen continued her strong play, netting her team-best ninth goal of the year. Samantha Zeiss started the play with a nice outlet pass to Allen who fired a wrist shot past Moore. The sophomore’s goal was her third of the weekend and gave Dartmouth a 3-2 edge.
Less than a minute after Allen’s go-ahead goal, Brown tied the game for the third and final time as Yang potted her second of the night.
Dartmouth is now 1-3-1 in Ancien Eight action, while Brown moves to 0-3-1.
The Big Green return to the ice next weekend, Jan. 17-18, traveling to the Empire State to square off with Cornell and Colgate in ECAC Hockey action. The game with the Big Red is set for Friday at 7 p.m. and the tilt with the Raiders gets underway Saturday at 4 p.m.
