CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Despite a pair of Lindsey Allen goals,  Dartmouth women’s hockey opened the 2013-14 regular season with a 7-2 defeat to No. 2 Boston College on Sunday afternoon at Kelley Rink.

The Big Green (0-1-0) began the year with a loss in the Bay State to the Eagles (5-1-0) for the second time in the last three seasons. After the defeat, the team from the Upper Valley is now 0-8-3 against top-ten opponents over the last two seasons. The last win for Dartmouth versus a ranked foe came on Nov. 26, 2011, against Northeastern.

Dartmouth opened the scoring just over one minute into the game as sophomore Lindsey Allen potted her eighth career goal. The Toronto, Ontario, native gave the Big Green their first lead of the year as classmate Laura Stacey and freshman Eleni Tebano picked up assists.

Allen’s marker would be the only one in the opening stanza and Boston College tied the game at one early in the second period as Haley Skarupa netted an unassisted tally.

Allen struck again three minutes into the second, scoring on the power play to give the Green and White a 2-1 lead. Dartmouth took advantage of its first power play of the season as Olivia Whitford and Emma Korbs assisted.

It was the first multi-goal game of Allen’s young career and her second multi-point contest. In their collegiate debut, Korbs and Tebano each produced a helper.

Kristyn Capizzano tied the game at two just under eight minutes into the second period. After Capizzano’s equalizer the Eagles scored five unanswered goals to pull away.

Megan Miller made 15 saves to earn her first win of the season for BC while Lindsay Holdcroft turned aside 15 shots in a losing effort.

The Big Green return to action next weekend, Oct. 25-26, as they welcome ECAC Hockey foes Princeton and Quinnipiac into Thompson Arena. The contest with the Tigers is set for Friday at 7 p.m. and the tilt with the Bobcats gets underway Saturday at 4 p.m.
