HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women’s hockey team dropped its 2013-14 home finale on Saturday afternoon, falling, 6-1, to No. 5 Clarkson at Thompson Arena in ECAC Hockey action.

The Big Green (7-18-1, 6-13-1) entered the final period trailing by just one goal before the Golden Knights (23-4-5, 14-2-4) exploded for a quartet of goals to pull away.

Clarkson came out early with authority, outshooting Dartmouth, 16-7, over the opening 20 minutes. In her final home start as a member of the Big Green, Lindsay Holdcroft kept her squad in the game turning aside 14 shots during the first period.

The Golden Knights special teams was the difference in the first, netting two goals to enter the intermission with a 2-0 advantage.

Dartmouth came out strong in the second period, controlling the pace and scoring the lone goal. This time the Big Green power play found the back of the net as freshmen defenseman Eleni Tebano fired a shot from the point that beat Clarkson goaltender Erica Howe. Laura Stacey set the play up nicely, winning a puck in the corner and leaving the puck for Tebano at the point. The assist was Stacey’s team-best 10th of the season. Dating back to Jan. 31, five of the last six Dartmouth goals have come from first-year skaters.

Once again, Holdcroft kept the Big Green in the contest saving all 13 shots she faced in the second.

Early in the third period, Olivia Howe and Shelby Nisbett scored for the Golden Knights to stretch their lead to three at 4-1. The duo scored just over one minute apart to shift the momentum back in favor of Clarkson.

Down the stretch, Genevieve Bannon potted two markers for the Golden Knights to put the game out of reach.

Late in the final stanza, Lindsey Allen was brought down on a partial breakaway by Erin Ambrose and was awarded a penalty shot. The Toronto, Ontario, native came skating in, but Erica Howe stood her ground and made the save.

Holdcroft stopped 33 shots in a losing effort, while Erica Howe made 26 saves to earn her 23rd victory of the year.

Following the game, three members of the Class of 2014 were honored on the ice as part of Senior Day ceremonies. Ali Winkel, Lauren Kelly and Lindsay Holdcroft were recognized for their contributions to the Dartmouth women’s hockey team over the past four seasons.

Dartmouth is fighting for a postseason berth and currently sits in ninth place with 13 points in league games. The top-eight teams advance to the ECAC Hockey Tournament and the Green and White are one point behind eighth-place Rensselaer heading into the final weekend of the season. The team from the Upper Valley holds the tiebreaker with the Engineers having swept the season series.

The Big Green conclude the 2013-14 regular season next weekend, Feb. 21-22, traveling to square off Brown and Yale in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action. The contest with the Bears is slated to get underway Friday at 7 p.m. and the tilt with the Bulldogs has a 4 p.m. start time on Saturday.
